BMW and Toyota Launch Real-World Trial for Renewable Gasoline
Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft and Toyota Motor Corporation have initiated a joint pilot program to evaluate the viability of renewable gasoline as a method for lowering carbon emissions from existing internal combustion engines. The trial utilizes Repsol’s Nexa 95 fuel, a synthetic gasoline developed to offer a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to traditional fossil fuels.
According to the automakers, Nexa 95 is capable of reducing emissions by approximately 70%. This experiment highlights a continued interest in “drop-in” solutions that could potentially extend the lifespan of current vehicle fleets without requiring immediate replacement by battery electric vehicles. By using a fuel that can be deployed in existing infrastructure and engines, the companies aim to address emissions concerns in segments where electrification faces hurdles.
Currently, BMW is trading down 0.34% from the previous close, with a market capitalization of roughly $35.13 billion. Meanwhile, Toyota shares are up 0.55%, giving the Japanese automaker a market cap of approximately $209.04 billion.
