Spied: 2027 BMW iX4 Prototype Hints at Grand Tourer Styling

A prototype for the upcoming 2027 Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft iX4 has been spotted testing on public roads in Germany, offering a first look at the German automaker’s latest electric addition. While classified as an SUV, the spy shots suggest a profile that leans more toward a traditional grand tourer than a high-riding utility vehicle.

The sighting provides an early glimpse into how BMW continues to expand its “Neue Klasse”-inspired electric portfolio. The iX4 appears to feature a sloping roofline and a longer hood, design cues typically associated with performance-oriented coupes and grand tourers rather than boxy SUVs. This aesthetic shift could signal BMW’s intention to differentiate the iX4 within its crowded electric lineup by targeting drivers prioritizing style and aerodynamics over maximum interior utility.

The addition of the iX4 comes as the automaker seeks to broaden its EV offerings across various segments. BMW currently produces vehicles under the BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce brands, operating through its Automotive, Motorcycles, and Financial Services segments. The new model will likely compete with other electric crossovers that aim to blend passenger car dynamics with the versatility of an SUV platform.

Shares of Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft were down 1.02% today, trading at $58.32. The company has a market capitalization of approximately $35.13 billion.
