Hyundai Recalls 47,000 Kona Units Due to Seatbelt Defect

Hyundai Motor Company has announced a voluntary safety recall affecting approximately 47,000 Kona and Kona Electric SUVs. The action is being taken to address a potential defect in the vehicle’s rear center seatbelt assembly. According to the company, passengers are advised to refrain from using the rear center seating position until the remedy is applied, as the belt may not properly restrain an occupant in the event of a crash.

The recall comes as the automaker conducts a routine review of its safety standards. Hyundai dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and repair the seatbelt mechanism as necessary at no cost to the owner. The company plans to notify owners of the specific recall schedule in the near future.

This news arrives during a difficult trading session for the South Korean automaker. Shares of Hyundai Motor Company (005380.KS) fell 6.12% today, with the stock price settling at $399,000.00 after a previous close of $425,000.00. Despite today’s decline, the manufacturer maintains a substantial market capitalization of approximately 113.6 trillion KRW within the Consumer Cyclical sector.

What to watch

  • Notification timelines for affected Kona and Kona Electric owners.
  • Hyundai’s official repair protocol for the seatbelt assembly.
  • Upcoming quarterly production and sales delivery figures.
