Toyota Motor Corporation has announced a voluntary safety recall affecting approximately 4,100 curtain shield airbag service parts in the United States. The action is focused on replacement components rather than new vehicles, specifically targeting inflators that may have been installed during previous repairs.

The issue stems from a potential manufacturing defect in the airbag inflators. According to the report, the propellant wafers inside these specific service parts could degrade over time. If the airbag is deployed in a crash situation, this degradation could cause the inflator to rupture. Such a rupture creates a risk of metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants, potentially leading to injury.

Toyota is currently developing the remedy for this issue. Authorized dealers will replace the affected curtain shield airbag assemblies once the necessary parts are available. The automaker plans to notify owners of the involved vehicles by mail. In the meantime, the company advises customers to contact their local dealership if they believe their vehicle has been repaired using one of the suspect components.
