Michelin fast-tracks XDR tyre to address wide-body safety concerns

The mining and quarry industry is under pressure. Operators need to move more tonnes, reduce operating costs and improve sustainability while maintaining the highest safety standards. Against this background, increasing numbers of sites have begun using a category of machine that sits between traditional small rigid dump trucks and tipper trucks. These wide-body trucks, says Michelin’s Jérôme Lesimple, provide mining operators with a “sweet spot” – the right balance between payload, versatility, acquisition cost and operational efficiency. But a sweet spot can quickly turn sour without the right tyre.
