BYD is about to launch this luxury electric SUV with 623 miles of range

October 21, 2026 · by APW Pipeline

BYD is set to launch the Denza N8 EV next week, a large five-seat luxury electric SUV with a CLTC range of over 623 miles (1,000 km).

BYD Denza N8 EV launches on October 26

The Denza N8 initially went on sale in China in 2023 as a mid-to-large-size luxury SUV. It was available as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with six- and seven-seat configurations.

BYD is preparing to introduce an all-electric version that will deliver the same electric-only driving range as the PHEV did on a full charge and full tank of gas, combined.

“The king of large 5-seater pure electric vehicles,” as Denza calls it, will use BYD’s second-generation Blade Batteries and Flash Charging Technology. The setup delivers “a world-leading 1,003 km pure electric range,” under CLTC conditions, Denza claimed.

BYD’s 1,500 kW Flash Charging tech powers compatible vehicles from 10% to 70% in just five minutes. To go from 10% to 97%, it takes only nine minutes.

According to a regulatory filing released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in August, the Denza N8 EV is 5,150 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,820 mm high, with a 3,075 mm wheelbase.

The Denza N8 EV will use a massive 130.15 kWh battery, providing a pure electric CLTC range of up to 623 miles (1,003 km).

BYD will offer a single rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or a tri-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain. The RWD version uses a single motor producing either 320 kW (429 hp) or 370 kW (496 hp).

The tri-motor Denza N8, meanwhile, is based on BYD’s e3 platform. The setup includes a 270 kW (362 hp) front motor and two 310 kW (416 hp) rear motors, delivering a combined output of 890 kW (1,193 hp).

Inside, the luxury SUV features two huge digital screens. One 30″ center infotainment screen spans nearly the entire passenger-side dashboard, and a new 43″ (1.1 meter) panoramic head-up display (PHUD) sits below the windshield.

Like many new BYD models, the cabin adopts a minimalist design with premium features like ambient lighting, a three-spoke steering wheel, and higher-end materials.

Ahead of its official launch, the Denza N8 EV was spotted in China undisguised. New images from Autohome show the luxury SUV driving in public, with roof-mounted LiDAR and a sleek, premium look.

Last month, BYD also launched the Denza N8L EV, a slightly longer six-seat version of the current PHEV sold in China.

The Denza N8L EV is available in two versions. The N8L EV Premium starts at 299,800 yuan, or about $45,000, while the Flagship model is priced from 329,800 yuan ($49,000).

Both versions use a 130.15 kWh BYD Blade Battery 2.0, providing a CLTC range of up to 596 miles (960 km).

The N8L EV is 5,200 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,820 mm high, with a 3,075 mm wheelbase, or slightly longer than the standard version. It’s about the same size as the current PHEV. The larger SUV features a “208L super-large intelligent electric front trunk.”

Local media suggests BYD will launch the Denza N8 EV on October 26. Check back next week for the full details.
