2027 Honda Vezel Gets A Black Sport Style Glow-Up In Japan

The popular small crossover receives some fresh updates
Honda
While the entry-level SUV of the Honda lineup in North America is the Civic-based HR-V, the rest of the world gets a smaller and sleeker subcompact crossover known as the Vezel in Japan (and sold as the HR-V in global markets). The current generation debuted in 2021 and received a facelift in 2024, but Honda is keeping it fresh with another round of model year upgrades for 2027.
The exterior design of the 2027 Honda Vezel remains largely unchanged from the earlier mid-lifecycle update. However, the entire lineup benefits from darkened inner headlight housings, giving it a meaner stance. Furthermore, the e:HEV Z and Play Package trims gain a body-colored finish for the plastic cladding on the bumpers and around the wheel arches.

Those looking for something more exclusive can opt for the Black Sport Style package, which replaces the previous Urban, Sports, Casual, and Active Styles. This dealer-installed kit includes a blacked-out grille with a different pattern, front and rear bumper extensions with black chrome inserts, black mirrors and rear spoiler, as well as a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels with a diamond-cut finish.
If you’re wondering what happened to the Vezel RS trim that came with a sharper suspension setup and sportier looks, this is expected to join the updated lineup later this year. Until then, Japanese buyers can choose between the Gasoline G, e:HEV X, e:HEV Z, and Play Package grades.
More features for the rear passengers
Honda
Inside the Vezel, there is a carry-over 7-inch digital instrument cluster and 9-inch infotainment display sticking out of the dashboard. However, the small SUV now comes standard with rear climate vents and dual USB-C charging ports, while the e:HEV X trim gains heated front seats. The flagship Play Package is available with dual-pane panoramic roof, a multi-view camera system, and a 10-speaker audio.
Predictably, there are no changes under the skin. Note that the Vezel rides on the same platform with the Honda Fit/ Jazz. Honda still offers the same 1.5-liter gasoline and 1.5-liter self-charging hybrid powertrain options. The ICE-only version is exclusively available with all-wheel-drive and a CVT gearbox, while the e:HEV can also be had with front-wheel-drive.
Honda
While most cars are getting more expensive due to inflation and added features, Honda managed to keep the starting price of the entry-level gasoline-powered Vezel G 4WD at a sensible ¥2,777,500 ($17,700). On the other end of the spectrum, the flagship Vezel e:HEV Z Play Package with 4WD tops out at ¥3,885,200 ($24,700).
It remains to be seen whether Honda will roll out similar updates for the global-spec HR-V which is sold in European and Asian markets. As for North America, we don’t expect any smaller Honda SUVs to arrive anytime soon. Still, the company won’t rule out a potential return of the Fit hatchback in the future.
