2027 GMC Hummer EV SUV

October 26, 2026 · by APW Pipeline

Overview

Few adjectives can adequately capture the GMC Hummer EV, but “ludicrous” comes close. With its towering stance, 8,660-pound curb weight, and a wheelbase that’s easier measured in yards rather than inches, this five-seat SUV is a hulking brute with mega capabilities both on- and off-road.

Despite its planetary mass, two mighty electric powertrains give the Hummer EV SUV enough firepower to break out of its own gravitational field. The 570-hp 2X trim is no slouch, but the 870-hp 3X trim delivers truly physics-defying thrust. All-wheel drive comes as standard, and rear-wheel steering allows for surprising maneuverability while parallel parking or navigating winding OHV trails. It’s surprisingly efficient, too, making use of GM’s Ultium EV Platform that grants it more than 300 miles of range and rapid recharge times—though the sheer size of the battery makes juicing up expensive.

Expert Tip: If the SUV doesn’t quite satisfy your definition of ludicrous, GMC also makes a Hummer EV Pickup that is longer, even more powerful, and comes with a five-foot cargo bed sprouting out of the back.

What’s New for 2027?

Changes are minor for the 2027 model year. A handful of new color options have been added, including Dark Ridge, Azurite Blue, Dark Ember, Deep Void Matte, and ICON Yellow. The ICON exterior color harks back to the Hummer H2’s signature school bus yellow hue and is available on a limited-run ICON|25 model that also features black exterior accents, serial badging on the instrument cluster, and unique infotainment graphics.

C/D Expert Tip:

If this year’s model is largely unchanged and you’re comfortable with a lightly used car, you may want to consider shopping previous model years. A one-to-three-year-old model will likely have a warranty and it’ll cost less than buying new.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

  • EV Motors: 507-hp dual motor, 830-hp tri motor
  • Drivetrain: all-wheel drive

The 2X has a dual-motor setup that generates 570 horsepower. The 3X has a trio of motors (one up front and two out back) with 830 ponies. Compared with the pickup truck Hummer, the SUV has a shorter wheelbase (126.7 inches versus 135.6), which makes it more maneuverable in parking situations and out on the trails. It also inherits our favorite off-road goodies from the truck version, including four-wheel steering with CrabWalk—which is just what it sounds like—and an adjustable air suspension with Extract mode that can raise it six inches.

GMC also pulls at our heartstrings with a full-size spare tire mounted on the rear gate. Plus, there’s an optional Extreme Off-Road package that brings special hardware that includes 35-inch all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels, extra underbody protection, low-mounted cameras for improved visibility while maneuvering, enhanced axles with heavy-duty components, a locking front differential, and rear motors that can electronically mimic a locked diff.

0–60-MPH Times

  • C/D 60-mph Test: 3.4 seconds (3X)

In Comparison: The last GMC Hummer EV SUV we tested rocketed to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds—a mind-blowing result for an 8,660-pound behemoth. That makes the Hummer EV quicker than both the Cadillac Vistiq and Lucid Gravity Touring.

Additional Research

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

  • C/D Range Test: 250 miles
  • EPA EV Range: 318 miles (2X), 312 miles (3X)

The EPA estimates the Hummer EV SUV can go for up to 315 miles between charges, but adding optional mud terrain tires drops that estimate down to a max of 289 miles. We only saw 250 miles of range from its 170-kWh battery pack in our 75-mph highway test.

Recharging can be quick, however. The SUV’s 800-volt architecture gains 100 miles of range in 14 minutes using a DC fast-charger. In our testing, the Hummer SUV required 128 minutes to charge from 10 to 90 percent and averaged a pull of 78 kilowatts. Otherwise, GMC says that a level 2 charger recharges at up to 19.2 kilowatts, providing 30 miles of range in an hour.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe

  • C/D 75-mph Highway Fuel-Economy Test: 45 MPGe
  • EPA City Ratings: 52-59 MPGe
  • EPA Highway Ratings: 42-47 MPGe

The EPA rates the most efficient Hummer EV 2X SUV at 59 MPGe city, 47 MPGe highway, and 53 MPGe combined. In our real-world highway testing, a Hummer EV SUV 3X managed 45 MPGe—just one shy of its government estimate. MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent, an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV vehicle fuel efficiency. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

First Row: The interior of the Hummer EV SUV is part rugged and part sci-fi. Its busy dashboard boasts both vertical and horizontal air vents and a pair of large displays that include a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Some interior materials feel a bit too utilitarian; those lower down on the dash and door panels look and feel out of place in a vehicle this expensive.

Second Row: As to be expected of a vehicle this monstrous, the Hummer EV’s second row is about as spacious as a typical living room. Even the tallest rear passengers will find that they have more than enough head and leg room to lounge comfortably.

Cargo Capacity: Along with storage under the load floor, the SUV Hummer boasts an expansive 82 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seat folded, but the high cargo floor makes it tough to load heavy items. In our testing, we fit 15 carry-on suitcases in the Hummer EV SUV’s cargo bay; with the rear seats folded, we fit a total of 33.

Infotainment and Connectivity

  • Infotainment: 13.4-inch touchscreen
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Audio System: 14-speaker Bose stereo (standard)

The Hummer’s cutting-edge technology is complemented by a large 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and extensive connectivity options. The system can handle navigation, both on- and off-road. A 14-speaker Bose sound system comes standard, as does a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot and a wireless smartphone charging pad. The Hummer EV SUV is also available with a 6.0-kW onboard generator that can be used to power all sorts of equipment and even <a href="https://www.caranddriver.com/n
