Jeep Will Sell You a Grand Wagoneer With a Lockable Safe. It’s Basically a Gun Safe

Only in America can you get a safe in your SUV or truck. God bless.
A few weeks back I spent some time in the refreshed 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Within a day of the Jeep showing up in my driveway I flipped up the front center console armrest and to my surprise was met with a lockable in-vehicle safe made of metal. It’s even listed on the window sticker, which I hadn’t noticed until discovering the safe itself in the car.

No one at Stellantis mentioned the fact this Jeep had a lockable safe in it before the SUV showed up, and I admit to being surprised to find it when lifting up the center console armrest. Without knowing the code to unlock this thing I haphazardly entered 1/2-3/4-5/6-7/8-9/0 and the open button. As if someone said open sesame I heard a click and the top opened. There was nothing in the safe, don’t worry.
The metal key that’s part of the electronic fob and can be slid out for emergency use is actually keyed to the safe. So should you forget the electronic combination but have the car’s key fob you’ll be able to manually open this safe and retrieve your valuables. Or, should you want to let someone into the safe but not give them the code, the key would also do the trick.
Call it a hand-me-down from the Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s truck sibling, the Ram 1500, upon which the Jeep uses many hard points. Yes, you can get the same in-vehicle safe in the Ram, obviously.
The 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer tested was an Upland model, which adds things like 20-inch all-terrain tires, skid plates, a 3.92 rear axle ratio, 2-speed transfer case, and more for $6,065 as part of the Customer Preferred Package 29V. An option package that’s real easy to market, I’m sure, with a name like that. But buried in the package and list of features is a “Locking In-Vehicle Safe.”
Buyers who want the built-in safe but aren’t interested in the Upland model and that package will also find it bundled into the Heavy-Duty Trailer-Tow Package, which costs $1,995. That package is available even on the base trim.
You have to give it to Stellantis, whether it’s the Attitude Adjustment marketing for the Dodge Charger’s ambient lighting system or the Symbol of Protest on the Ram 1500 with the Hemi V8, this company leans in.
