NABC Donates Recycled Rides to Two Chicago Veterans

On Thursday, Oct. 8, two refurbished vehicles were presented to two Chicago-area U.S. Army veterans in need. The donations were made possible by the National Auto Body Council (NABC) Recycled Rides program, vehicle donor Allstate and repair partner Gerber Collision & Glass and were sponsored by the Growth Conference 2026, a three-day event at the David Rubenstein Forum at the University of Chicago.
A 2019 Ram 1500 was presented to Michael Powell, who was nominated by Chicago Veterans. Powell is a 15-year U.S. Army combat veteran who has dedicated his life after military service to uplifting fellow veterans, young men, children and families throughout his community. He actively serves as a veteran peer leader, life coach, physical fitness coach, mentor and community volunteer, helping others develop confidence, discipline, leadership and healthier lifestyles.
A 2021 Kia K5 was presented to Michelle Scott-Bovell, who was nominated by the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital. Scott-Bovell served in the U.S. Army from 2014-2016. She and her husband are both veterans. Unfortunately, she recently fell on hard times due to her husband suffering a stroke and having their income slashed because he is no longer able to work.
Those in the community can support this program in two ways — donate to the program directly or donate their unwanted or non-running vehicle through the Changing and Saving Lives Keys for Change program. They will receive a tax donation for their contribution, and proceeds will help provide reliable transportation for those in need across the country — and in their community.
