October 27, 2026 | Econergy connects its 40 MW/120 MWh Dalmarnock battery storage system to the UK grid; Voltus raises $225m for grid flexibility, and more.

Voltus has raised $225 million in an oversubscribed Series D financing round. Generation Investment Management led the round alongside co-leads Activate Capital and Vitol. Other investors include Broadscale Group, Climate Investment, NGP, Ajax Strategies and All Aboard Fund. Voltus is building the grid’s flexibility layer: it taps the latent capacity in batteries, cooling systems, and industrial processes at thousands of businesses and homes, and dispatches it into electricity markets. Participants that reduce, shift, or supply power can lower their energy bills and earn new revenue. By getting more out of existing infrastructure, flexibility can help bring down electricity rates for everyone. The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) expects peak demand to grow 24% over the next decade, more than double the growth it forecast two years ago. Voltus will use the funding to help close the grid’s capacity gap. The company anticipates it will grow its platform to 20 gigawatts (GW) by 2030 as it executes on its Bring Your Own Capacity (BYOC) program in PJM and MISO and expands its leadership position across the U.S. and Canada. Press release.

Peak Energy announced that it has raised $108 million in an oversubscribed Series B round led by General Motors Ventures, with participation from Maverick Silicon, Infinite Capital, Eclipse, Xora Innovation and LG Technology Ventures. The company makes sodium-ion energy storage systems for grid applications and will use the funds to expand U.S. manufacturing, deliver more than $1 billion in existing customer orders and enter the data center market. Its 4 GWh manufacturing facility in Sacramento, California, unveiled in July 2026, is scheduled to begin production in the first quarter of 2027. The flagship system uses a proprietary passive cooling platform designed to need no active cooling, planned maintenance or water. Customers include Jupiter Power, RWE and Energy Vault. Press release.

InoBat announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Analog Devices (ADI) to explore jointly developing i-Power+, an intelligent battery energy storage system (BESS) platform designed for AI data centers, hyperscale computing and utility-scale energy storage. The platform would combine InoBat’s battery chemistry and BESS technology with ADI’s wireless battery management and edge and cloud AI capabilities. Pilot work begins in October 2026 at ADI Catalyst in Limerick, Ireland, where the companies will define the system architecture, select co-development partners and suppliers, and deliver a prototype LFP BESS platform. The prototype will use a wireless battery management system that removes cell-to-battery management unit wiring, along with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy-based diagnostics and anomaly detection. The companies also plan to apply the architecture to sodium-ion BESS. Press release.

Econergy announced that its 40 MW/120 MWh Dalmarnock battery energy storage system in Glasgow, Scotland, has been connected to the UK grid. The three-hour system is the company’s second connected UK battery project, after the 50 MW/100 MWh Swangate project, which connected in 2024, and full commercial operation is expected by December 2026. The project is supported by a project financing agreement of about £21 million with Santander UK and a 10-year revenue floor agreement with EDF that guarantees a minimum annual revenue and includes a revenue-sharing mechanism. Dalmarnock is part of Econergy’s approximately 2.2 GW storage-led UK portfolio, which includes the 80 MW/240 MWh Immingham project, expected to connect in 2027. Press release.

PIT IN, a commercial electric vehicle energy platform startup in Korea, has secured 12 billion won (about $9 million) in Series A funding and plans to upgrade its business model beyond its existing Battery Swap Service (BSS) into a “Distributed Energy Platform” that connects exchange stations to the power grid. PIT IN was spun-off from Hyundai Motor Company in 2023. Hyundai Motor Group’s open innovation platform, ZER01NE, participated in this Series A round as a strategic investor (SI). Silicon Valley-based Nautilus Investment, Korea Asset Investment & Securities, and the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund have also joined as investors. Press release.
