Auto care industry forecast to reach $676.5 billion by 2029

Auto care industry forecast to reach $676.5 billion by 2029

The U.S. automotive aftermarket is expected to grow 5.4 per cent in 2026 and reach $599.7 billion in sales, according to the Auto Care Association’s newly released 2027 Auto Care Factbook.

The report projects total aftermarket sales will climb to $676.5 billion by 2029, driven by continued growth in the vehicle population and the increasing age of vehicles on the road.

According to the association, the average age of light-duty vehicles has reached a record 12.9 years, while the U.S. vehicle parc is expected to exceed 301 million vehicles by 2029, an increase of nearly 10 million vehicles compared with 2025 levels.

The report found the aftermarket grew 3.9 per cent in 2025 despite economic uncertainty, supply chain disruptions, inflationary pressures and changing regulatory conditions.

“Americans are keeping their vehicles longer, relying on this industry to maintain safety and mobility, and that demand continues to create a strong foundation for growth,” said Bill Hanvey, president and CEO of the Auto Care Association.

The association said demand for aftermarket products and services continues to benefit from rising new vehicle prices and consumers keeping vehicles in service for longer periods.

The annual Factbook also includes updated data on service satisfaction, automotive e-commerce, medium- and heavy-duty parts markets, collision trends and tool and equipment purchasing activity.
