Top-selling used EVs you can find for under $25,000
With a flood of electric cars returning from lease this year and soaring gas prices, used EVs are suddenly flying off the lot.
Used EV sales rose to a record 3.3% of total used vehicle sales last month, up from 2.9% in August, according to Cox Automotive.
Used ICE vehicle sales, on the other hand, dropped 4.4% in September as buyers flocked to more efficient options.

As expected, Tesla remains the leading used EV brand, followed by Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, and BMW.
By model, the Nissan Ariya led growth, with sales up 42.5% in September, followed by the Chevy Equinox EV (+41.9%), Kia EV9 (+36.2%), and Chevy Blazer EV (+30.2%), while the Ford Mustang Mach-E (+14.7%) and Tesla Model Y (+13.8 %) also saw more demand.
With more options to choose from, which one is best for you? To help you decide, Edmunds, which has tested nearly all of them, put together a list of four top used electric SUVs available for under $25,000.

Chevy Equinox EV
The first one on the list was the Chevy Equinox EV, or as GM used to call it, “America’s most affordable 315+ range” electric vehicle.
After it arrived in 2024, the Chevy Equinox EV quickly became one of the top-selling electric vehicles in the US outside Tesla, winning over buyers with enough space for a family and plenty of driving range at an affordable price.

The Chevy Equinox EV offers up to 319 miles of EPA-estimated driving range. It’s a great fit for those looking for a smaller, more efficient SUV that still offers plenty of interior space.
Edmunds says it’s worth upgrading to the 2LT trim, which adds heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, a wireless phone charger, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree HD Surround Vision camera system.

Ford Mustang Mach-E
Next on the list was the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which has also remained a top seller since it went on sale in 2021.
Ford tapped into its iconic Mustang nameplate to help attract new buyers. The Mustang Mach-E came well equipped with a large 15.5″ infotainment screen with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+.

While the GT is the most fun to drive, Edmunds said the Premium trim may be your best bet. It still offers plenty of performance while adding standard features like heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
It’s also worth upgrading to the extended-range battery pack, which offers up to 320 miles of range on the Premium RWD model. You should be able to find used 2021 to 2023 Mach-E’s for under $25,000.

Hyundai IONIQ 5
Another top-selling electric SUV, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 continues to win over buyers with its bold design, long-range capabilities, fast charging, and a surprisingly spacious interior.

Edmunds says plenty of used 2022 to 2024 IONIQ 5s with low mileage are available for under $25,000.
While the base SE Standard Range is the cheapest, it only offers an EPA range of 220 miles. Upgrading to the Extended Range battery, which is used on all other trims, provides up to 303 miles of range.

Volkswagen ID.4
The Volkswagen ID.4 went on sale in the US in 2021 as one of the earlier mainstream electric SUVs.
It was updated in 2024, but up until the 2023 model year, the VW ID.4 offered an EPA range of up to 275 miles, depending on the configuration.

Finding a low-mileage used 2023 ID.4 shouldn’t be hard, but upgrading to the Pro S trim might be worth it.
Volkswagen updated the 2023 ID.4 with a new 12″ infotainment display and Park Assist Plus. The Pro S trim gained a fixed panoramic roof, V-Tex synthetic leather seating, and a heated steering wheel.
