Are You Retorquing Lug Nuts?

The new tires are installed, but the job may not be finished. A lug nut torque check after about 30 miles helps verify that wheel fasteners remain tightened to the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.

During installation, technicians should tighten every lug nut in the proper sequence and to the specified torque. After approximately 30 miles of driving, customers should return for a recommended torque check.

Why a Lug Nut Torque Check Is Recommended

Once the vehicle returns to the road, normal driving forces can reveal whether the wheel and fasteners have fully settled.

During the follow-up inspection, technicians should check each lug nut for movement. They should bring any fastener back to the correct torque only if needed.

This quick follow-up supports a secure wheel installation and provides customers with additional peace of mind.
