Ford Launches A Special Mustang Mach-E, But It’s Only For Police

Ford is eager for police forces across the United States to use the all-electric Mustang Mach-E and has launched a Special Service Vehicle (SSV) version as part of its updated 2027 Mach-E range. Some agencies already use their own versions of the Mach-E, and this turnkey model may encourage others to follow suit. The Mustang Mach-E SSV is based on the entry-level Select trim and comes with performance features from higher-spec models.

It lacks some of the luxuries of higher-end trim lines, so it should suit enforcement agencies that will make their own upgrades before deploying these EVs. Ford Authority understands the model uses the Mach-E’s available extended-range 91-kWh battery pack and dual electric motors. It’s unclear if these motors are borrowed from the eAWD versions of the Premium and Select models rated at up to 370 horsepower, or if it has the more spirited 480 hp setup of the Mach-E GT. Since it will ship with GT badges, it’ll likely get the more powerful motors.

Alongside the beefed-up powertrain, the Mustang Mach-E SSV will ship with 20-inch aluminum wheels. There will be Brembo front brakes with red-painted calipers, special front and rear fascias, and a gloss black grille shield. Ford will also ship the model with the Co-Pilot360 Active 2.0 system, a drainable frunk, and front parking sensors.

It also includes the Mach-E’s Unbridled driving mode, which improves acceleration response, tweaks the steering, and ramps up regenerative braking. Ford has yet to release any photos of the Mustang Mach-E SSV, though it may look similar to the prototype tested by the Michigan State Police in 2021. Earlier this year, officers in Dearborn, Michigan took delivery of a handful of special Mustang Mach-E GT models with a particular focus on stopping reckless and aggressive drivers in their tracks.

Of course, the Mustang Mach-E is far from the only EV police are using across the United States. Last year, the Palo Alto Police Department received a patrol-ready Rivian R1S. Of all the electric cruisers in operation in the U.S., the Las Vegas police Cybertrucks are perhaps the most striking. Tech entrepreneur Ben Horowitz and his wife donated these heavily modified Cybertrucks to the force, and each is expected to cut the agency’s annual fuel costs by $8,800 to $12,000.
