Peterbilt makes it easier than ever for government fleets to go electric

Legendary truck brand Peterbilt is lowering procurement barriers for state and municipal fleets looking to electrify their assets by adding its growing lineup of medium- and heavy-duty battery electric trucks to its cooperative purchasing Agreement with Sourcewell.
The expanded purchasing contract, extended through July 2028, provides Sourcewell’s more than 50,000 member organizations access to competitively solicited contracts with pre-negotiated pricing and terms across the Peterbilt brand’s full lineup of Class 5-8 commercial trucks. That contract allows eligible agencies to streamline procurement by sourcing Peterbilt’s on-highway, vocational and medium-duty BEVs through Sourcewell’s pre-negotiated agreement, potentially eliminating the need to go through a long, agonizing bidding process of their own.
“Our long-standing relationship with Sourcewell reflects Peterbilt’s commitment to delivering solutions tailored to the unique needs of public fleets,” explains Erik Johnson, assistant general manager of sales and marketing at Peterbilt. “By adding our electric vehicles to the contract and eliminating lengthy bidding processes, we’re helping organizations maximize uptime and invest their resources where it matters most, keeping their communities running.”
ELI5; what is Sourcewell?

I hear some of you asking, “Why is this important, and what exactly is Sourcewell?” And you’re very smart to ask.
See, when your state or local government decides it needs a new truck, it can’t just call up someone’s cousin and cut an inflated check backed by your tax dollars (regardless of what you saw on Fox News). Instead, public agencies generally have to follow competitive purchasing rules that are designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and responsible use of taxpayer money. That can mean writing and publishing a request for proposals (RFP), publicly soliciting bids, evaluating competing offers, and even allowing public comments that can all-too easily devolve into 17 hours of Pawnee-level discourse among stakeholders (real and imagined) about the relative merits of competing proposals.
Sourcewell is a government agency that basically does all that ahead of time, publishing RFPs, soliciting ,and evaluating bids against established criteria, then awarding contracts through a transparent, auditable process that makes competitively negotiated pricing available to more than 50,000 government, education and nonprofit organizations across the US and Canada.
In practice, that means your local government fleets can leverage Sourcewell to quickly adapt to pressing needs in a way that doesn’t bypass the bidding process (which would be illegal), but which effectively says, “we trust Sourcewell’s process.”
