Speeders just got lucky: the new Chevy police Silverado is NOT electric

November 1, 2026 · by APW Pipeline

Say what you will about America’s police forces, but they are loyal – often to each other, and always to their preferred brand of pursuit vehicle. And if the thin blue line of Chevy faithful won’t embrace the 750 hp electric Silverado because it’s powered by batteries, that can really only be called a win for the scofflaws they’re pursuing.

A new 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 9C1 police pursuit vehicle (PPV) was on display in the GM Fleet booth at the Orange County Convention Center this past week, where the new half-ton was featured fitted a new, 402 hp version of the venerable 5.7 small-block Chevy V8 sending 428 lb-ft of torque to both axles through a 10-speed automatic transmission. The 9C1 also features an available 2″ lift kit that retains the truck’s pursuit rating, up to 9,300 lbs. of towing capacity, and an available driver’s side LED spotlight.

If that all sounds somewhat pedestrian, it might be because Electrek readers are more familiar with the Silverado EV, which offers more than 750 hp in WOW mode and 775 lb-ft of torque at 0 rpm, along with a pessimistic EPA rating of just 478 miles – which, hilariously, is about the same “range” as the 16 mpg (combined) gas version, despite the EV packing nearly 350 additional horsepower, the ability to cruise in silence, and the significantly reduced maintenance and total cost of ownership costs of going electric.

Which, I guess, are all reasonably obvious things that nobody actually asked me about – and certainly nobody with a criminal justice degree and a statistically low LSAT score, so I’ll get back to talking about the truck, itself.

A massive, 16″ touchscreen display dominates the interior of the PPV, and was also touted as a standard feature (as it across Chevy’s civilian line), though if and how it would integrate with police department software isn’t clear – and my guess is that enforcement computing will continue to be an upfitter issue.

A number of photos were originally taken by Dorian Jzak and posted to the Emergency Vehicles Photography Facebook page earlier this week. I included a screencap below, in case it disappears, and clicking here will get you to the original post with more high-res images.
