GM is recalling more than 67,000 Cadillac and Chevy EVs over a brake software defect

General Motors (GM) issued a recall affecting more than 67,000 Cadillac and Chevy EVs because a software glitch can cause a temporary loss of braking.
GM recalls Cadillac, Chevy EVs due to a brake software
The recall comes after a 2024 Cadillac Lyriq ran into a garage (at a low speed). On April 10, 2026, a GM tech expert submitted a report to GM’s Speak Up for Safety (SUFS) program for review.
After internal testing, GM was able to replicate the glitch, similar to a recall it issued in 2024. GM said the issue stems from a software glitch with the brake system control module (BSCM) that can cause a temporary loss of braking while driving under certain conditions.
When drivers lightly tap the brakes during a sharp turn and the vehicle hits a bump, the software’s slip calculation may misinterpret wheel movement.

In some instances, it can lead to a temporary loss of braking. The glitch only affects pAWD vehicles, including certain Cadillac Lyriq, Celestiq, Vistiq, and Chevy Blazer EV.

In a letter sent to the NHTSA on October 29, GM said the recall impacted 67,380 vehicles total, including certain:
- 2023 – 2027 Cadillac Lyriq
- 2025 – 2026 Cadillac Celstiq
- 2026 – 2027 Cadillac Vistiq
- 2024 – 2027 Chevy Blazer EV
According to documents filed with the NHTSA, GM found 24 field complaints related to the issue. Of these, 20 involved minor accidents, and two involved allegations of minor injuries.
The complaints were received between February 24, 2024, and June 11, 2026. GM said it has implemented software corrections in production over the past few months.
