What If Alfa Romeo Actually Built A Production Cuorerosso Sedan?

November 4, 2026 · by APW Pipeline

Here’s one way the brand could go with a new sedan

Theottle

Alfa Romeo fans can’t stop thinking about the Cuorerosso concept and how fitting it looks as a potential successor to the aging Giulia. While the CEO of the Italian automaker made it clear that the concept previews a new styling language rather than an upcoming sedan, digital artist Theophilus Chin envisioned a production version in the digital world, just to satisfy our curiosity.

As sexy as the model looked at the Alfa Romeo stand at the Paris Motor Show, we all know that production models tend to lose some of the magic of concept cars. Indeed, it would be hard for the Italian brand to manufacture a vehicle with the Cuorerosso’s exaggerated proportions, complex surfacing, lack of shut lines, and futuristic greenhouse.

Theottle started his renderings with images of the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe, trying to strike a fastback sedan silhouette. Still, with the Cuorerosso riding on a modified version of the Giorgio architecture, the current Giulia would likely be a better donor vehicle for the digital makeover.

Toned-down features

Theottle

In any case, the digital artist used his Photoshop skills to apply the lines of the concept to the production model. At the front, the nose sits higher and features larger cooling intakes, although it retains the scudetto grille flanked by the aggressive LED headlights and the sculpted bumper. The hood gains the necessary shut lines and appears to be shorter in length, while the fancy wheel arches of the concept are gone.

The profile has the same character lines, but the dash-to-axle ratio is not as impressive, the rear shoulders are less pronounced, and the roofline is less dramatic. Furthermore, the alloy wheels adopt the same design, albeit in a much smaller diameter, and the ground clearance has returned to production-spec levels. More importantly, the model gains a more conventional greenhouse with thicker pillars, larger mirrors, and visible pop-out door handles.

At the back, Theottle tried to copy the lines of the original, combining them with a regular rear windshield and a simpler rear bumper with dual tailpipes. At least he kept the owl-eye-shaped taillights and the V-shaped tailgate of the model that would easily set it apart from all of its rivals in the segment.

While the digital artist didn’t show the interior, it is safe to assume that a production sedan would abandon the suicide doors of the Cuorerosso and adopt a different dashboard layout without the proposed materials, vivid colors, and futuristic technology of the concept.

What is really going to happen?

Alfa Romeo

If the enthusiasm surrounding a low-slung hybrid V6 sport sedan hasn’t changed Alfa Romeo’s mind, we will have to be patient before we see a new Giulia on the road. After all, it was only last month when Alfa Romeo CEO Santo Ficili clarified that the Cuorerosso is a design manifesto rather than a direct preview of a production model.

The first member of the Alfa Romeo lineup to adopt the new styling language will be a compact SUV set to replace the Tonale by 2028, riding on the STLA Medium architecture with multi-energy powertrains. Next up will be the successor of the discontinued Giulietta in the compact segment, likely with some sort of an elevated hatchback body style underpinned by the newer STLA One platform.

As for the aging Giulia and Stelvio, their production run has been extended through the end of 2027 after scrapping the initial plan for EV-only successors. The Italian brand is currently re-evaluating options for future midsize models, leaving open the possibility of utilizing an evolved version of the Giorgio architecture.

Meanwhile, the Alfisti can look forward to a new limited-production model under the Bottega Fuoriserie program, following the success of the Maserati-based Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale supercar. This one might also bring back the manual gearbox, making it even more desirable to collectors.
