2027 Lexus TX

November 5, 2026 · by APW Pipeline

Overview

Despite sharing its underpinnings with the proletariat Toyota Grand Highlander SUV, the Lexus TX masks its humble origins by shrouding its occupants in a hushed cocoon packed with luxury content. Compound that with a laundry list of standard features, including heated front seats, a 12-speaker premium audio system, a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, and more, and the TX does enough to earn its Lexus badge.

The TX’s cabin isn’t as visually arresting as those in rivals like the Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7, but its seating surfaces and touch points all exude a premium feel. Cargo and passenger space are generous, and its adult-sized third row makes riding in the rearmost seats tolerable for tall passengers. A 275-hp turbocharged four-cylinder supplies power to the front wheels as standard, and all-wheel drive is available. While exciting performance isn’t the TX’s strong suit, its agreeable ride and polished on-road demeanor make it a compelling pick in the luxury mid-size segment.

Expert Tip: All gas TXs wear a “TX350” badge. If you’re looking for a bit more oomph, take a look at the Lexus TX Hybrid (badged “TX500h”), which pairs the same 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with two electric motors for a total of 366 horsepower, a significant 91-hp boost.

What’s New for 2027?

Changes to the gas TX are minor for the 2027 model year. Non-F Sport models pick up a new Matador Red exterior color, and the standard 20-inch wheels on the Premium trim now wear a darker gray finish.

C/D Expert Tip:

If this year’s model is largely unchanged and you’re comfortable with a lightly used car, you may want to consider shopping previous model years. A one-to-three-year-old model will likely have a warranty and it’ll cost less than buying new.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

  • Engine: 275-hp turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder
  • Transmission: 8-speed automatic
  • Drivetrain: front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive

The TX350 employs a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that provides modest power (275 ponies) and feels a little undersized for a vehicle this big—but it will nevertheless be enough for most buyers. If you like the TX but are seeking more grunt, consider the TX Hybrid, which we review separately. On the road, the TX350 feels less peppy than its hybrid sibling, but its quiet and comfortable ride will likely satisfy luxury-oriented family-car shoppers.

Car and Driver calculates your car’s value in three free and easy steps – using the same Black Book® data dealers use to appraise vehicles.

0–60-MPH Times

  • C/D 60-mph Test: 7.1 seconds (FWD)

In Comparison: With a 5.7-second time, the TX500h hybrid model is significantly quicker than the nonhybrid.

Additional Research

Towing and Payload Capacity

  • Max Towing: 5000 pounds

The TX’s towing capacity is acceptable but far from class-leading. The Volvo XC90 tops out at 5000 pounds, too, but the Audi Q7 can tug 7000 pounds, and the bigger Lexus GX550 has a 9096-pound rating.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

  • C/D 75-mph Highway Fuel-Economy Test: 31 mpg (FWD)
  • EPA City Ratings: 20-21 mpg
  • EPA Highway Ratings: 26-27 mpg

The EPA estimates that the TX350 is good for 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined with front-wheel drive; all-wheel drive models are rated for 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined. On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, the front-wheel drive TX350 outperformed its rating with a 31-mpg result. For more information about the TX’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

First Row: The TX’s cabin is a little underwhelming to look at, but everything up front feels first class. The seats are cushy and heated, and leather upholstery is available. The TX’s front seats are comfortable for long drives, and the commanding view out the windshield should satisfy SUV buyers.

Second Row: Depending on the trim level, shoppers have the option to swap the three-person bench for two heated and ventilated captain’s chairs. Both setups are comfortable and roomy enough for adults.

Third Row: Though the third row’s bottom cushions are positioned close to the floor—like those in many a three-row SUV—the wayback is spacious enough for grown humans. Plus, the seatbacks recline.

Cargo Capacity: The TX has one of the largest cargo areas in the segment, offering 20 cubic feet of space behind the third row. There are also lots of receptacles for small items throughout the cabin. In our testing, we fit five carry-on suitcases behind the TX’s third row and 18 with the third row stowed. With both the second and third rows stowed, we fit a total of 38.

Infotainment and Connectivity

  • Infotainment: 14.0-inch touchscreen
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Audio System: 12-speaker stereo (standard), 21-speaker Mark Levinson stereo (optional)

We like the 14.0-inch infotainment display in the TX. It’s responsive and intuitive to use, though some settings are buried, and the touch-sensitive steering-wheel buttons are finicky. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration is standard, as are built-in navigation and a wireless smartphone charging pad. A 21-speaker Mark Levinson stereo and a head-up display are available.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Every TX rolls off the assembly line with a suite of driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, and more.

  • Standard Safety Features: adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring
  • Optional Safety Features: 360-degree camera system, automated parking assist
