2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door

November 5, 2026 · by APW Pipeline

Overview

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door takes a hard turn towards the future for 2027, ditching gasoline completely and replacing it with a battery pack and trio of axial-flux electric motors. With two positioned on the rear axle and one on the front, they work together to deliver a peak 1153 horsepower in the GT63 variant; that’s 322 more ponies than the former GT63 S E Performance plug-in hybrid, which extracted 831 horsepower from its gas V-8 and single electric motor powertrain combo. The GT55 is good for a max of 802 horsepower, and the GT53 makes 536.

Construction of the bodywork is also new, utilizing a blend of aluminum, steel, and fiber-reinforced composites with the aim of maintaining high rigidity and a low overall weight. But these are just the highlights, as the only thing that carries over from the old GT is its name and its four-passenger, four-door blueprint.

Expert Tip: With this much speed and power in the EV arena, the Mercedes GT63 is lining up against EVs like the Porsche Taycan Turbo and Lucid Air Sapphire.

What’s New for 2027?

Everything but the GT name. We were a bit startled to see such radical change, but we’re here for it. You’ve got the two or three electric motors, a 600-kW max charging speed, a claimed 2.0-second 0-60 time, an electronically limited 186-mph top speed, the fierce new styling, and much, much more.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

  • EV Motors: 535-hp dual motor, 805-hp tri motor, 1153-hp tri motor
  • Drivetrain: all-wheel drive

The GT53 comes with two electric motors that combine for 536 horsepower. Both the GT55 and GT63 get three motors; the former makes 805 horsepower, and the latter makes a whopping 1153 ponies. Note that the figures quoted above are peak output, available for short bursts like launch-control starts; continuous output is rated at 711 horsepower for the GT63 and 503 horses for the GT55. The electric motor (or motors) that reside at the rear axle provide power under normal circumstances while the front motor works as a booster when additional traction or acceleration is required. It fully disconnects when not in use.

There are many drive modes available, and the available AMG Dynamic package unlocks additional settings. Active aerodynamics and rear-wheel steering contribute to the performance objectives. There’s also a synthetic soundtrack that is designed to replicate the sound of an inline-six or a V-8 engine at full rip. When we drove the AMG GT 4-Door EV, we enjoyed the faux V-8 noises in Sport+ mode and found the car to be surprisingly agile.

0–60-MPH Times

  • Claimed 60-mph Time: 2.0 seconds (GT63), 2.4 seconds (GT55), 3.4 seconds (GT53)

In Comparison: The Mercedes-AMG GT63’s claimed 2.0-second time puts it right in league with the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach, which achieved a 1.9-second time in C/D testing. We often beat manufacturer performance claims, so we’ll see how the GT does when we get one to our test track.

Additional Research

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

  • C/D-Estimated EV Range: 310-325 miles

We estimate that the GT will be capable of between 310 and 325 miles of range. We’ll update this section with official EPA estimates as soon as more data becomes available.

An 800-volt, 106-kW lithium-ion battery is standard. Mercedes-AMG claims the 600-kW charging rate can take the battery from 10-80 percent in as little as eleven minutes when connected to an appropriately speedy DC charger. A/C charging is limited to 11 kW. U.S. market cars will use the NACS plug, meaning you can charge at Tesla Supercharger stations.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe

Official EPA numbers are not yet available, but we estimate the GT55 and GT63 models will deliver between 85 and 92 MPGe combined. MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent, an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV vehicle fuel efficiency.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

First Row: The interior of the GT features racy touches such as carbon-fiber trim and AMG-specific displays, but incorporates the kind of upscale materials you would expect from a high-zoot Mercedes. You sit low in the sports seats, and the steering wheel features paddle shifters.

Second Row: The rear seat is sculpted, and the standard setup only seats two passengers. A three-passenger bench seat is optional.

Cargo Capacity: The GT’s trunk accomodates 15 cubic feet, and there’s a small front trunk under the hood. When we get the chance, we’ll see how many carry-on suitcases we can fit inside.

Infotainment and Connectivity

  • Infotainment: 14.0-inch touchscreen
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Audio System: 17-speaker Burmester stereo (standard), 30-speaker Burmester stereo (optional)

The GT has a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.0-inch central touchscreen that’s angled towards the driver. It runs Mercedes’ MBUX software and has a highly customizable display. There’s also a standard passenger’s display screen. Mercedes offers subscriptions to many connectivity features, and a head-up display is optional.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The GT comes with standard driver-assistance technology including forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring and automated emergency braking, as well as lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist. More advanced tech is available as part of a subscription.

  • Standard Safety Features: automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  • Optional Safety Features: adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature

For information about the GT’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

The GT has the same warranty coverage as other Mercedes EVs, which is nothing out of the ordinary. Other luxury automakers, such as BM
