Valvoline Global Showcases Motor Oil Testing at AAPEX

Valvoline Global Operations presents new motor oil testing data at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX). The research examines differences in motor oil performance, including deposit removal and piston ring movement.
At Booth V4418, Valvoline Global shares test results demonstrating how Restore & Protect removes deposits and frees stuck piston rings. The company compares its findings with results from competing motor oils.
Valvoline Global Examines Motor Oil Performance
Since its introduction in 2024, Restore & Protect has challenged traditional expectations of motor oil performance. Building on previously demonstrated deposit-removal capabilities, the latest research examines piston deposit formation in three competing motor oils.
The testing includes a leading full synthetic motor oil and two other competing products. Researchers use Sequence IIIH engine tests and evaluate each oil at its recommended drain interval.
Valvoline Global conducts the controlled testing at its certified engine laboratory in Ashland, Kentucky. Each of the three competing oils produces engine deposits that contribute to one or more stuck piston rings.
Researchers then run Restore & Protect through the same pistons twice at the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended oil-drain interval. The oil removes deposits and restores piston ring movement closer to its original equipment manufacturer (OEM)-intended operating condition.*
Stuck piston rings can cause significant engine problems, including blow-by and increased oil consumption.
Restore & Protect Testing Highlights Deposit Removal
Valvoline states that Restore & Protect is the first and only motor oil to remove up to 100% of engine deposits with continuous use.**
The company’s latest research also indicates that Restore & Protect helps restore movement to piston rings previously stuck by deposits.
Valvoline Presents Research at AAPEX
Valvoline highlights Restore & Protect’s deposit-removal technology through a new television commercial for North American audiences.
At AAPEX, attendees can view the test results featured in the advertising campaign. The booth also features visual representations of the findings and a presentation by Dr. Michael Warholic.
Warholic serves as senior director of technology at Valvoline Global Operations.
